Born as a Sudra in His Previous Birth, Kakbhushundi Goes to Ujjain
O Garuda, the enemy of serpents! Listen, I had gone to Ujjain, miserable, sad, poor and dejected. When sometime passed, I got some wealth and began worshipping Lord Shankar, at this very place. There was a Brahmana who  always worshipped Lord Shiva as per Vedic rites and had no other work. He was very pious soul and a knower of the highest truth.

The Guru, a Great Devotee of Lord Shiva
He was a worshipper of Lord Shambu but not a defamer of Lord Hari. I served him though with deceitful intentions. The Brahman was very kind at heart and an abode of morality. O Svami! Seeing me tender outwardly, the Brahmana considered me his own son and taught me. That great Brahmana gave me a mantra or incantation of Lord Shiva and gave me all sorts of of good advice. I used to go to a temple of Lord Shiva and chant the incantation. Arrogance and pretence escalated in my heart.

Lord Vishnu
Being a wicked wretch, belonging to a low caste, having a sinful polluted mind, and overcome by infatuation, I seethed with jealousy at the very sight of a devotee of Lord Hari or a brahmana, and was hostile towards Lord Vishnu.  Guruji was distressed to see my conduct. He would explain things to me but I would not be convinced and fumed with rage on the contrary. Can moral conduct ever appeal to a hypocrite?

Even Shiva & Brahma Worship the Feet of Lord Rama
One day my spiritual preceptor called me and gave me wisdom (of the absolute truth) in every possible way: My Son! The sole fruition of worshipping Lord Shiva is to have immense religious devotion for Lord Rama's feet. O dear! Even Lord Shiva and Brahma worship Lord Rama. Then of what standing is an ordinary human being! O unfortunate one! You want happiness, by harbouring ill-will against Him whose feet are loved by Brahma and Shiva Himself ?

The Guru & Kakbhushundi as a Sudra
O Pakshiraja! On hearing my Guru speak of Lord Shiva as a servitor of Lord Hari, my heart was on fire. Born into a low caste, I became like a serpent who becomes all the more poisonous when fed on milk, on acquiring learning. Arrogant, perverse, a wretch and low-born, I rebelled against my spiritual preceptor, day and night. However my guru was tenderhearted and least angered (even when I revolted); Over  and over again, he gave me supreme spiritual advice. The first thing a mean person does is to kill and destroy the very person who has exalted him. O brother!

Garuda, the Mount of Lord Vishnu
Listen, smoke produced by fire, attains the rank of a cloud and extinguishes that very fire. Dust contemptuously lies on the road and always bear the brunt of those people's legs, who trod on it. But when carried high up by the wind, it first envelopes the air itself and then falls on the eyes and thrones of kings. O Pakshiraja, Garuda! Understanding this state of affairs, the wise shun the company of vile men. Sages and learned men uphold this saying that it is neither good to quarrel with a wretch nor make friends with him. O Gosain! One should always remain aloof from him. Just like a dog, a wicked fellow should be avoided from a distance. I was wicked. My heart was full of deceit and crookedness. (That is why) Though Guruji would talk of my well-being I would not like it.

Lord Shiva Fumed with Rage
One day I was chanting Shiva's Name in the temple of Lord Shiva. Precisely then, my Guru came there but due to pride I did not get up to greet him. He was compassionate and did not say a anything (even on seeing my fault). Not a trace of anger afflicted his heart. But disrespect of one's Guru or spiritual preceptor is a very grave offence. That is why Lord Mahadev could not tolerate this.
